ISA mourns the loss of soybean checkoff pioneer

Indiana farmer William “Bill” Silver, a pioneer in launching the soybean checkoff in Indiana, died Tuesday.

The Indiana Soybean Alliance says Silver served as an advocate for all Hoosier farmers.

Jane Ade Stevens, CEO of the ISA, says Silver led the effort for many years to get a soybean checkoff passed and took great pride in seeing how the alliance developed.

The ISA is working to build new markets for soybeans through the promotion of biodiesel, livestock, grain marketing, aquaculture, new soybean uses, and research.
