Vice President Pence visits Red River Valley farm

Vice President Mike Pence visited a farm in the Red River Valley Thursday.

Minnesota Farm Bureau president Kevin Paap says he and others in attendance quizzed Pence about how to get the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement through Congress.

“What we heard from the Vice President was let’s get a vote (on USMCA) scheduled. Let’s continue to work on this and deal with it as the time comes.”

He tells Brownfield Pence indicated negotiations continue hour by hour.

“Whether it’s USMCA and making sure people understand how important that is. Whether it’s negotiations going on with the delegation from China, and how important that is.”

Minnesota Farmers Union president Gary Wertish thanked Vice President Pence for visiting Minnesota, but reminded him Mexican and Canadian officials have said they will not ratify USMCA unless the steel and aluminum tariffs are removed.

The R and J Johnson Farm of Glyndon, Minnesota hosted the Vice President.
