Motorcade for Trade swings through Minnesota dairy farm

Dairy farmers in southern Minnesota had a chance to express the importance of ratifying the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement Thursday.

Steve Hoffman, who milks about 140 cows near New Ulm, hosted the Farmers for Free Trade Motorcade for Trade and says agriculture is suffering while tariffs between the three countries remain in place.

“With the tariffs in place, last year alone several studies showed the tariffs and lack of trade cost dairy farmers in the U.S. about $1 billion dollars.”

He tells Brownfield Minnesota Republican Congressman Jim Hagedorn attended the Farmers for Free Trade event and sounded optimistic about finalizing USMCA.

“He said they’d have to get about 30 to 40 Democrats to sign on to the ratification of the agreement as well.”

A new report by the International Trade Commission forecasts U.S. ag exports to increase by more than $2 billion dollars under the new USMCA agreement.
