Michigan Carrot Checkoff increases assessments

Michigan carrot growers have voted to increase assessments collected on processed carrots.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture reports five producers representing 95 percent of voting production, voted for the checkoff to continue.  Growers will now be assessed 50 cents per ton of processing carrot production, an increase of 10 cents.

Fresh market carrot assessments will stay the same at $0.0175 per 50 pound box.

The Carrot Industry Development Program was created in 1999 to support marketing, promotion and research within Michigan.

In 2018, Michigan growers produced more than 1.5 million hundredweight of carrots on 4,000 acres.
