SAN ANGELO — A trail of human blood led San Angelo police to a man accused of attacking another man using a mailbox as a weapon, according to an affidavit.

Earlier this month, a 29-year-old San Angelo man was indicted by a grand jury on charges of aggravated assault, court documents state.

On Feb. 16, 2019, police arrived at a residence in the 100 block of South Cecil Street where they found a man "with a large amount of blood coming from his head," according to an affidavit.

Police located a damaged metal mailbox nearby, as well as a trail of human blood between the residence and the roadway.

The man who was bleeding told police he had been standing outside the residence when — allegedly without warning or provocation — he was struck on the head with the mailbox from his own address, records state.

A witness told police she heard a loud noise, then saw a bleeding man being dragged across the road by another man, according to the affidavit.

Investigators were told the man stopped dragging his victim only after the witness yelled that she was going to call the police, records state.

Police were told all three people lived at the same address together, and that the man who attacked his roommate was believed to regularly use narcotics and was behaving violently prior to the incident.

According to police, the man allegedly admitted he was guilty of using the mailbox to assault his roommate.

Police arrested Eric Glenn Stout on charges of aggravated assault against a family or household member using a weapon, and with prior conviction, court documents state.

Stout was booked into Tom Green County Jail where he remains as of Thursday April, 25, 2019, in lieu of $10,000 bond, according to online jail records.

If convicted, Stout faces a first degree felony charge punishable between 5-99 years and a $10,000 fine, records state.

Stout's first court appearance has been tentatively scheduled for June 2019, according to online court records.
