Not many wheels turning in Minnesota fields

Fieldwork has been sparse across Minnesota.

Steve Carlsen with crop inputs supplier West Central Distribution says despite mild weather this week, flooding continues to cause problems along the Red River Valley.

“Fields (there) still have a lot of water. Yesterday I was driving down to Nebraska and I didn’t see anyone in the field until I hit south of I-90, and that was a little scary to not see that activity (while) driving through prime farm country. I expected to see a little more movement.”

Across the Upper Midwest, he tells Brownfield there’s only one region that seems to be on schedule.

“The only places I’m familiar with where we’re getting some extreme activity would be western North Dakota where I’ve seen a fair bit of activity.”

Most of southern Minnesota is forecast to receive cooler temperatures along with moisture this weekend.

The southeastern part of the state could get several inches of snow.
