An employee at St. Josaphat Parish school who allegedly brought a gun to school that discharged, wounding a student, has been fired, the parish administrator said Wednesday.

In a statement, the Rev. Lawrence Zurek said he first learned of the April 5 incident on April 12, immediately fired the longtime employee and contacted Milwaukee police.

A 10-year-old student was grazed by a bullet during the incident, according to police.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to the school when the employee was terminated but were not notified that a student was injured in the incident until April 17.

The employee was arrested and the incident remained under investigation Wednesday, police said.

Zurek said parishioners were not notified of the incident until April 18, and that more information would be released when a police report is completed.
