Governor Parson asks for federal disaster declaration

Governor Mike Parson has asked President Trump to approve a disaster declaration for 13 Missouri counties so they can get federal assistance for flood recovery. The Governor says he expects the request to be expanded to include additional counties once full damage assessments can be made.

Governor Parson says preliminary infrastructure damage assessments have already reached $25 million. Agriculture disaster requests are made after federal disaster declarations are made.

The counties are situated along the Missouri River in Northwest Missouri and along the Mississippi River in Southeast Missouri.

The Governor declared a state of emergency March 21 in response to flooding. He met earlier with the governors of Iowa and Nebraska to identify regional recovery solutions. The three governors are scheduled to meet again Friday.

Governor Parson expressed appreciation for what’s been done by faith-based and volunteer responders to help communities recover. He says he’s confident federal assistance is coming.
