Ernst urges end to tariffs and ratification of USMCA

Iowa U.S. Senator Joni Ernst says pressure must be put on members of the U.S. House to pass the USMCA.

Ernst, at the Tariffs Hurt the Heartland town hall at Kinze Manufacturing today, said tariffs also need to be lifted, “Several months ago, President Trump had indicated that once we had a deal with Canada and Mexico there would no longer be a need for tariffs. So, folks, we have a deal.”

Iowa farmer John Heisdorffer, who chairs the American Soybean Association, says U.S. farmers are losing and Brazil is winning, “We’ve more or less handed them our soybean exports for a while here with the tariffs.”

Iowa farmer Pam Johnson, past president of National Corn Growers, says, “Tariffs are killing us and trade wars are not easy to win.” Johnson says she lived through the ag crisis of the 80s and it’s starting to feel like that now.
