Kudlow comments on U.S.-China trade talks

President Trump’s National Economic Council Director says progress is being made in U.S.-China trade talks on issues like agriculture, non-tariff barriers, forced technology transfer, and enforcement. Larry Kudlow says, “We’re not there yet but we’ve made a heck of a lot of progress. We’ve come further, deeper, broader, larger-scale than anything in the history of U.S.-China trade, and I think that’s a good thing.”

Kudlow told the National Press Club Tuesday tariffs on China were instrumental in bringing them to the negotiating table and says there were “manageable costs” to those tariffs. “We did back up the farmers who were great patriots, but here’s the point. The degree of unfair and unlawful trading practices engaged in by China had to stop.”

The U.S. Trade Representative’s team will be back in China next week.  The White House says Robert Lighthizer, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and their teams are scheduled for more trade negotiations starting Tuesday.  The White House also says the Chinese Vice Premier will lead a trade delegation to Washington for more talks starting May 8th.
