Supervisor Shirlee Zane Sees Hope in Letter from Kaiser on Mental Health – April 17, 2019

Families united by tragedy demonstrated in Oakland today. They sought improvements in mental health care at the headquarters of Kaiser Permanente.

Today on Morning Edition you heard from Song and David Brown about their 19-year-old daughter Elizabeth. She was a talented young woman from Santa Rosa who killed herself a year ago after seeking help from Kaiser Permanente. You can hear that interview on our website at norcalpublicmedia.org.

The Browns were in Oakland today at Kaiser Headquarters. They attended a demonstration demanding that the organization to improve its mental health care. The National Union of Health Care Workers (NUHCW) organized the rally. They represent some of Kaiser’s mental health staff.

Sonoma County Supervisor Shirley Zane, although not attending today’s rally, also signed a letter asking to meet Kaiser’s leadership to talk about mental health. You’ll hear from her in a moment. KRCB News Director Steve Mencher has more…
