Woman raped in 1995, elderly couple terrorized - police seek help in solving cold case

Springettsbury police say the crime occurred about 9 a.m. on Nov. 22, 1995 in the 100 block of North Manheim Street, in the Old East York Neighborhood.

Springettsbury Township Police are asking for help in solving a cold case involving the rape of a woman in the township in 1995, according to a news release on its Facebook page.

Police say the crime occurred about 9 a.m. on Nov. 22, 1995 in the 100 block of North Manheim Street, in the Old East York Neighborhood.

The victim was approached from behind by a male and forced into a residence occupied by an elderly couple, police said.

"The suspect raped the victim, forcing the elderly male to watch the act," police said. "He also threatened to shoot the victim and the elderly male. Additionally, the suspect demanded a large sum of money from the elderly male."

Police described the suspect as a white male, between 20 and 40 years old, standing 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with short dark greasy hair, longer sideburns and no facial hair. He also had a “raspy” voice and rough hands, police said.

Before the incident, witnesses said they had seen a white man wearing a dark-colored wind breaker in the neighborhood. 

Police said that through their investigation, the man is believed to have been in or near Williamsburg, Va. in 2001.
