On Earth Day, the Brewers have eliminated plastic straws at Miller Park

If you want to sip a soda at a Brewers game at Miller Park, you better bring your own straw.

The team announced Monday that the clear plastic straws available at food stands will go the way of dollar beers.

Extinct.

The Brewers tweeted that since plastic straws are among the items that contribute to millions of tons of plastic waste littering the planet's oceans, they will no longer be available at Miller Park. Paper straws will be available on request.

In February Brewers pitcher Brent Suter managed to get his team to reduce their plastic waste by switching to reusable water bottles. Read Journal Sentinel reporter Lori Nickel's story about Suter encouraging coaches and players to fill up their bottles at water stations rather than drinking from plastic bottles that would end up in trash cans.

Brewers officials did not return messages seeking comment about the plastic straw ban at Miller Park.
