Here's what you should know about thunderstorms coming to San Angelo this week

SAN ANGELO — San Angelo has a chance of severe weather starting Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 3:13 p.m. Monday, April 22, the area is looking at a 20% chance of storms Tuesday afternoon, which will increase to 90% overnight. The chances will stay at 90% until it drops to 20% Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service is predicting strong to severe thunderstorms along and ahead of a cold front coming from the north to affect all of West Central Texas, according to its website.

The San Angelo area is looking at hazards like large hail and damaging winds with the potential for flash flooding. An isolated tornado also could be possible. Possible impacts include roof and vehicle damage, minor tree and structural damage due to large wind and flash flooding from training storms.

Senior forecaster Terry Huber said to bring outdoor furniture inside if possible. If not, be sure to secure it. He also encouraged people to park vehicles in a garage or under a carport.

Thunderstorms should clear out by Thursday and the 80-degree temperatures with sunny to partly cloudy skies should stick around through the weekend.

Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 57. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and 1 inch possible.

Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 68. East northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 52. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday: A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light north northeast after midnight.
