Oxnard woman killed in Carpinteria vehicle crash

This was the scene of a fatal traffic collision that killed an Oxnard woman on Saturday morning in Carpinteria.

An Oxnard woman died in a head-on collision that injured five others in Carpinteria on Saturday morning, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at 6:36 a.m. near the intersection of Carpinteria and Bailard avenues.

According to a preliminary investigation, a white Nissan NV200 panel van was traveling west on Carpinteria Avenue while a silver Toyota Sienna was eastbound. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan crossed over the lane divider and crashed into the Toyota head-on.

The crash killed a woman from Oxnard, who was a passenger in the Nissan, authorities reported. Both drivers and three passengers from the Toyota were taken to a hospital. 

The driver of the Nissan, a 41-year-old Oxnard man, is expected to recover from his injuries, authorities said. The occupants of the Toyota, a family from Montecito, suffered moderate injuries, according to deputies.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have played a role in the crash, authorities said. The investigation is being conducted by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
