2 arrested, weapons seized after Oxnard traffic stop

Firearms seized by authorities during a probation search in Oxnard on Saturday.

Two men were arrested after a probation search in Oxnard yielded illegal weapons, including an unregistered firearm, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

The arrest took place at noon last Saturday in the 1400 block of West Channel Islands Boulevard.

Investigators pulled over the driver, identified as Kyle Jones, 23, of Oxnard, on suspicion of him displaying signs of recent drug use, according to authorities. Jones was on probation for previous drug charges.

Officers said they conducted a probation search of the vehicle and of Jones’ residence and found an unregistered 9 mm handgun with an extended magazine, as well as a billy club and a second gun in the process of being made into an operable firearm.

Jones was arrested on suspicion of unlawful transfer of a firearm, being in possession of a billy club and being under the influence of a controlled substance, according to authorities. A 27-year-old male passenger was also arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, authorities said. Both were booked into county jail.
