Since 1970, communities have gathered on April 22 to celebrate "Earth Day." It's a day to demonstrate support for environmental protection and teach sustainability. Locally there are at least eight events that will take place before and after April 22. We've compiled a list so you don't miss out!
When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20
Where: Bryte Park, 425 Todhunter Avenue, West Sacramento
Enjoy unique items from local artisans, food and drinks from vendors, music, fun for the kids and free raffle with prizes. This free community event will include an egg hunt for kids at 10:30 a.m. The City of West Sacramento encourages those who attend to reduce their carbon footprint by ordering a Lyft, Uber or the city's Via Rideshare. Use code "WSEARTH19" to get your Via rides for $1 when you attend!
2. Earth Day 2019 in Auburn
When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 20
Where: Armed Forces Pavilion & Community Garden, 995 Lincoln Way, Auburn
Earth Day 2019, “Celebration of the Monarchs” features a street fair, live music, monarch exhibits, interactive exhibits and food trucks.
3. Earth Week at the Wells Fargo Museum (Old Sacramento Waterfront)
When: Monday, April 15 through Monday, April 22
Where: Wells Fargo Museum, 1000 2nd Street, Sacramento
The Old Sacramento Waterfront Wells Fargo Museum location is celebrating Earth Week through April 22. Visitors will learn how to live more sustainably and can even plant their own herb seed to take home. To learn more, call (916) 440-4263.
When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24
Where: Main campus quad at Sac City College, 3835 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento
Enjoy live performances from noon to 1 p.m., check out the farmers market area and learn more about campus clubs! The event, organized by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, is also an opportunity to recycle any e-waste that you may have. Items accepted: computers, laptops, big screen TVs, phones, printers, cables and cords, household appliances.
When: 10 am. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 27
Where: Placerville Library, 345 Fair Lane, Placerville
Fun for the whole family awaits at the Placerville Earth Day Celebration - where you'll find live music, vendors and children's activities. Aside from vendors, the event is free!
6. Earth Day 2019: Sacramento River Parkway & Garcia Bend Park
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27
Where: Sacramento River Parkway and Garcia Bend Park
Join Councilman Rick Jennings and Parks Commissioner Devin Lavelle for a volunteer day to spruce up the parks! Equipment will be provided by the Sacramento Tree Foundation. When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m on Sunday, April 28
Where: Southside Park, 700 T Street, Sacramento
Those who attend the festival will enjoy live music and good food (there are even vegan options!) while learning about green products, electric vehicles, community groups, local nonprofits and volunteer opportunities. Around 150 organizations and business will have booths at the event organized by the Environmental Council of Sacramento.
When: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 25
Where: Rocklin Campus Quad, 5100 Sierra College Blvd., Rocklin
The Sierra College Rocklin Campus will celebrate Earth Day with a week of workshops and education, but the big day is on Thursday, April 25. The festival offers a free climbing wall, music, food vendors and tabling by environmental organizations and businesses. Click the link above for a full schedule of events.

If you are looking for a super bloom in Northern California, take a look at Table Mountain near Oroville. The 3,300-acre reserve was formed by ancient lava flows and for a few weeks every year some 600 varieties of native wildflowers blanket the hillsides. The wildflowers are typically in bloom from the beginning of March to the end of April.
