SAN ANGELO – Two men originally arrested for burglary Thursday morning were charged with murder in the death of Kristian Rose, according to a San Angelo Police Department news release.

The two were arrested at gunpoint 11:20 a.m. Thursday, April 18, after police responded to a burglary in progress at an apartment complex in the 1800 block of S. Fillmore St.

Officers saw the duo fleeing in a black passenger car, according to the release.

Officers discovered three firearms and suspected methamphetamine, according to the release. One of the firearms was reported stolen in a recent, but unrelated, burglary.

After the two men were arrested for burglary, detectives received search warrants for residences in the 400 block of Angelo Blvd. and the 2400 block of N. Lillie St.

This led detectives to "probable cause" that the two men were involved in the murder of 26-year-old Kristian Rose on April 2, according to the release.

Rose's cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the chest, according to a preliminary autopsy report.

The two men arrested were Brian Garcia, 20, and Jacob Martinez, 18.

Brian Garcia

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of murder, burglary of a habitation/intend other felony and felony manufacture delivery of controlled substance penalty group one, a first-degree felony.

Martinez was arrested on suspicion of murder, burglary of a habitation/intend other felony, theft of a firearm and possession of a prohibited weapon. Both men remained in Tom Green County Jail as of 12:21 p.m. Friday, April 19.

Additional charges are pending the outcome of this ongoing investigation, according to the release.

The murder of Kristian Rose

Kristian Rose, 26, was found conscious but unresponsive around 3:40 a.m. April 2, in a residence in the 600 block of E. 39th St. Police officers and San Angelo Fire Department medics tried to save him, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Rose was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard, and his body was sent to South Plains Forensic Pathology Center in Lubbock for an autopsy.

His time of death was listed as 4 a.m., according to a preliminary autopsy report.

Rose's death was San Angelo's fourth homicide within 15 days.
