Shout of 'gun' during York Galleria mall fight prompts armed police response

No evidence of a gun was found, police said.

Armed police officers responded to the York Galleria Thursday for a report of shots fired amid a fight among several people at the mall.

"There were not shots fired," Lt. Todd King said later.

Police also have not found any evidence of a gun, according to a news release.

Several people were involved in a physical altercation near the food court at about 4 p.m., King said. Someone yelled "gun," and police received a call about shots being fired.

Police responded to the mall — some with long guns strapped over their shoulders.

A fight broke out in the York Galleria on Thursday, and someone yelled "gun," prompting police to respond to the mall.

"When you get a call like that, we're going to respond as we're trained," he said.

The fight broke up quickly, King said. The mall was not crowded at the time.

Police are investigating and looking at video from some of the stores.

"We thank police for their quick response," said Stacey Keating, a spokeswoman for CBL Properties, which owns the York Galleria.

The incident was over quickly, she said. It's business as usual at the mall.
