Procession through three states planned ahead of funeral for fallen Marine

His funeral service will be held in New York. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Funeral services have been set for fallen U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Christopher Slutman.

Slutman was a decorated fireman with the Fire Department of the City of New York, and his funeral services will be held in New York. He has ties to York County, where his parents live. 

The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, at St. Thomas Church, 1 West 53rd Street, New York, New York, according to an obituary.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Joseph A. Lucchese Funeral Home, 726 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx, New York.

Staff Sgt. Christopher K. A. Slutman was killed in the line of duty April 8, 2019, while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. He was 43 and lived in Delaware. His parents live in York County.

Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Slutman was one of three Marines killed by a roadside bomb on April 8 while serving in Afghanistan. He leaves behind a wife, Shannon, and three young daughters. His parents, Fletcher and Mary Slutman, live in Lower Windsor Township in York County.

Sgt. Benjamin S. Hines, 31, of York County, Pennsylvania, and Cpl. Robert Hendriks, 25, of Locust Valley, N.Y., also were killed in the attack. 

The dignified transfer of Slutman's remains from Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware, to the funeral home is set for Monday, April 22. 

To honor Slutman, the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department in Maryland is asking that police, fire, EMS and the public line the procession route during the dignified transfer, according to a Facebook post. Slutman was a volunteer with the department.

The route will include the Delaware Memorial Bridge, the New Jersey Turnpike, and the George Washington Bridge into New York.
