37-year-old man killed in south Oxnard shooting

A 37-year-old man died after being shot Wednesday afternoon in the South Winds neighborhood of Oxnard.

It was the city’s third homicide of the year, police said.

The victim was reported at 1:36 p.m. in an alley behind La Tapatia Market, 211 W. Hueneme Road. 

Police said they arrived and found a 37-year-old male victim suffering from gunshot injuries. He was transported to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to police.

Oxnard police launched an investigation into the homicide.

Authorities said two perpetrators, males in their late teens or early 20s, were seen fleeing the scene in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle.

Police said they didn't know whether the attackers knew the victim or whether the crime was gang-related. Police said the weapon was probably a handgun.

The city of Oxnard offers a reward of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any individuals responsible for committing homicides within the city.
