Dairy Together Roadshow in central Minnesota

The dairy community gathered in central Minnesota Tuesday to discuss the future of small and medium-sized dairy farms.

National Farmers Union and the National Farmers Organization have organized a series of Dairy Together events that Minnesota Farmers Union director of outreach Bruce Miller says generate conversation.

“We all know what’s going on with prices. We all know that inputs are high. We do know these are tough times in dairy land right now, and people are looking at realistic solutions.”

He tells Brownfield those solutions could come in the form of supply management or two-tier pricing.

“We need to continue to focus on dairy farming. We need to continue to focus on making sure that prices go up, and (that) we deal with huge issues that dairy farmers face like the high cost of healthcare insurance.”

Miller says ideas of how to create more demand for dairy products are also being talked about.

The Dairy Together Roadshow was in Greenwald, Minnesota Tuesday.
