Storm system delayed fieldwork last week in Nebraska

Last week’s strong storm system caused further delays to the start of spring fieldwork in Nebraska.

The weekly crop progress report says there were only 2.2 days suitable for field activity last week. Topsoil moisture supplies rate 33 percent surplus and 66 percent adequate, while subsoil moisture supplies rated 30 percent surplus and 68 percent adequate.

As of Sunday, oats planting was 12 percent complete, well behind 33 last year and 53 for the five-year average. One percent had emerged.

Winter wheat rated four percent excellent, 64 percent good, 27 percent fair, four percent poor and one percent very poor.
