Canada to impose tariffs on U.S. products

Canada is threatening new retaliatory tariffs on more U.S. exports if the U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum aren’t ended. A piece in Agri-Pulse quotes Canadian Ambassador David MacNaughton saying the new tariffs, including some on U.S. farm goods, are set to be imposed next week “more out of sorrow than out of anger.”

U.S. ag products on Canada’s list of new tariffs could include apples, pork, ethanol and wine, according to MacNaughton.

The ambassador says Canada’s new tariffs are not meant to escalate the trade dispute, but just to maintain the dollar-for-dollar response to Trump’s tariffs.
