Earl F. “Grampy” Daniels, 90, of rural Nebo, IL passed away Saturday evening (4-6-19) at Pittsfield Manor.
Earl was born April 13, 1928 near Atlas, a son of Frank and Lydia Foster Daniels. He married Hazel M. Battershell on May 28, 1949 in Pittsfield and she survives.
Earl was employed by the Barton-Lemmons Elevator in Pleasant Hill for many years. In 1966 he took a job with the GM&O Railroad and retired from the railroad in 1990. In 1982 Earl and Hazel moved from Pleasant Hill to the log cabin they built near Nebo.
He enjoyed hunting and camping in earlier years. More recently, he enjoyed traveling, listening to country music, cutting up material for Hazel’s rugs and teasing “or aggravating” family and friends.
Earl was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Hazel M. Daniels of rural Nebo, three daughters, Wanda (John) Stone of New London, MO, Mary Ann (“Doc”) Thomalla of Louisiana, MO and Emma Mae Daniels of Milton, FL, five grandchildren, Adam Carpenter of Pleasant Hill, Christopher Stone of Aurora, CO, Shawn Carpenter of Pleasant Hill, Joshua Legaspi of Milton, FL and Nicki Loyd of Grand Prairie, TX and nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Nora Crowder, Aileen Guthrie and Irene Willis and by three brothers, Bill, Norman and Charles Daniels.
Funeral services will be held Saturday (4-13-19) at 11:00 a.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill conducted by Jimmy Hodges and Dan VanHecke. Burial will follow at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Spring Creek Fire Department or to Crescent Heights Cemetery Association.
