Georgia E. Soloway, 84, of Alton, IL and formerly of Rockport, passed away Friday (4-5-19) at the Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Georgia was born February 2, 1935 in Winchester, IL, a daughter of Harry Lee and Florence Elizabeth Christison Pence. She married Edward Vincent Soloway and he died September 19, 1999.
Georgia was a caregiver for many in the Rockport and New Canton area for many years. Later in life, she was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad cleaning and moving engines and rail cars.
She always enjoyed taking care of her many neighbors and taking them for treatments and car rides. She did a lot of nice things for her neighbors and loved them all.
Georgia was a member of the First Christian Church in Pittsfield.
Survivors include five daughters, Debra (Steve) Trappe of Alton, Gail (Greg) Gutierrez of Alton, Leora (Jimmy) Duncan of St. Augustine, FL, Darlene Mabry of East Alton and Tonya (Lee) Ewing of Alton, nine grandchildren, Amber, Briann, Josh, Jill, Linn, Kim, Brent, Charlie and Georgia, eighteen great grandchildren, a brother, Lloyd Pence of Nevada, MO, three sisters, Betty Nelson of Cottage Hills, Rosemary Miller of Beardstown and Mary Harshman of Rockport and numerous nieces and nephews.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, William Robert Ewing, a granddaughter, Heather and by five sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services wil be held Thursday (4-11-19) at 2:00 p.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill conducted by Michael TenEyck. Burial will follow at Samuel Taylor Cemetery near Rockport. Vistation will be held Thursday from 12 noon until services.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
