With so many amazing mascara formulations around at present, I don’t think I’d rush for this one at £22. It’s nice enough without being spectacular. In its favour however, it has a lash boosting complex built in so the more you wear it, in theory, the better your lashes get. There are two shades, Perfect Brown and Perfect Black – obviously I prefer the black but the brown is just right for very fair or red haired because its not a brown-trying-to-be-black; you’ll get lash length and thickness without the tone jarring which is hard to find at the best of times.
I am, however, completely obsessed with the Waterproof Pencils. My favourite kohl EVER is Clarins Kohl Eye Pencil With Brush HERE non affiliate HERE so if they discontinue that I will actually cry and I’m stocking up just in case, but the Waterproofs are also amazing.
I’m glad I’ve taken a few days to get around to writing about these because they perform completely differently in hot and cold weather. Thanks to the British climate, they’ve been very cold and also very warm – performing far better when they’re warm. In that situation, they leave a deeply pigmented line (inner or outer rim) that’s easily smudged to smoky with a brush if you’re quick. On the inner rim, the black shade is the blackest black I’ve used for a long time – so impactful and dramatic. I ‘think’ the fact that it’s waterproof gave it more staying power on my inner lids but how long you can keep kohl on inner rims is down to the individual and the level of moisture in your eyes. If you’re watery, avoid the Fig shade that made me look like I was coming down with a cold. If you’re not watery, you’ll keep the intensity for longer. I’m pleased to see a grey shade, Grey Wood, that’s nicely intense and deep enough to contrast well with grey hair.
Don’t even tell me how terrible these swatches are! I’m hopeless at a fine line swatch. First is black, followed by Grey Wood, Forest, Fig and Chestnut – there’s a navy blue somewhere that I’ve neglected to swatch. What’s impressive is that they haven’t broken – warm or cool. This style of liner is very prone to breaking and it hasn’t happened with any of them. There’s a little sharpener hidden at the other end so you can keep the precision.
I’m off to stock up on the old style kohl – I wonder how many could be considered a life-time supply?
