Trump aide who pleaded guilty in the Mueller probe is directly asking for a pardon
George Papadopoulos, the Trump aide who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with a man offering help to the campaign from the Russian government, is now officially seeking a pardon from the president.
Papadopoulos was charged early on in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, and he served two weeks for the crime he pleaded guilty to. It has also been reported that his contact with a professor offering campaign helped, which he discussed with an official in the Australian government, first sparked the Russia investigation.
“My lawyers have applied for a pardon from the president for me,” Papadopoulos told Reuters. “If I’m offered one I would love to accept it, of course.”
According to the Wall Street Journal's Rebecca Ballhaus, when Rudy Giuliani was asked if the president's lawyer were considering the request, he said, "No, I'm not."
Papadopoulos now says that, contrary to his testimony under oath to a judge, he did not lie to the FBI.
