Flooding leaves mark on Nebraska

Late month flooding exacted a heavy cost in Nebraska. Damage was extensive and some estimates have costs topping $1 billion. The USDA says more than half of the state’s topsoil and a third of subsoil have surplus moisture levels, with more flooding expected in parts of the state.

At the end of March, 61% of the winter wheat crop is in good to excellent condition, compared to 51% a year ago.

The USDA’s weekly national crop progress and condition reports resume April 1st.
