Cool, wet March for most of Missouri

March was wet and cold for much of Missouri. The USDA says statewide average precipitation was a little bit above usual, while temperatures averaged almost six degrees below normal. Flooding has been widespread along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers with more expected as snow cover further north melts, probably delaying planting in some areas.

Most of Missouri has adequate to surplus soil moisture and 87% of the state has adequate stock water.

30% of the state’s winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent, compared to 41% a year ago.

The USDA’s weekly national crop progress and condition reports resume April 1st.
