Cooler than normal March for Illinois

The USDA says more than half of Illinois has surplus soil moisture. That’s despite rainfall being slightly below normal for the month of March. The average statewide temperature was nearly five degrees below normal. 41% of the winter wheat crop is in good to excellent condition, compared to 57% this time last year.

The USDA’s weekly national crop progress and condition reports resume April 1st.
