Missouri River management is still a sore spot for Grassley

The way the U.S. Corps of Engineers is managing the Missouri River continues to be sore spot for Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley.

Grassley says flood control needs to be the Corps’ number one priority.

“It’s getting the Corps to realize that they’ve got to put more emphasis on flooding than five or six other things that are in their manual that they have to take into consideration on controlling the flow of water down the Missouri River,” Grassley says.

The protection of life and personal property should take precedence over recreation and wildlife habitat concerns, Grassley says.

He says it took a long time for communities along the Missouri to recover from flooding that took place in 2011. Now, Grassley says, “we’re back to square one.”
