[productsample] I like the idea of being able to choose my favourite shade lipstick in a different finish. For some reason, it hadn’t occurred to me that Clarins Joli Rouge has eight shades that cross satin, shine, velvet and now lacquer. The penny never dropped although over time I’ve reviewed them all. Or maybe I forgot. But Joli Rouge Lacquer is a very welcome addition, being a balmy textured high shine and perfect for a summery,  juicy lip finish.

I was completely convinced that they were going to come in a lip gloss style format – I thought the coloured section was the product, and the lid held the wand. No! They’re a standard lipstick format and the ‘colour’ is actually coloured casing – highly handy for spotting your shade at a glance.

This type of formulation is perfect for me – I love shine and love balmy style coverage. For balm styles, these pack a huge colour punch – one application is all you need for the fullest saturation.  I’ve been wearing Grenadine all day (yesterday) and found the last okay (not excellent) for this type, although the shine does dissipate over time.

From bottom to top (one swipe only which lets you see how much colour they lay down in a single application): Spicy Chilli, Pop Pink (a new shade across all the finishes), Pink Cranberry, Plum, Nude Brick, Grenadine, Soft Berry and Jolie Rouge. The Lacquers launch on 14th April for £22 each and if you like balm style with a big bang of colour, these are strong performers.
