Improvement shown in Illinois corn and soybean yields

Illinois’ corn and soybean yields improved from 2017 to 2018 according to a USDA report.

The state’s overall soybean yield average was 65 bushels per acre compared to 58 in 2017 and the overall corn yield average was 210, up from 201 the year before.

The top 14 counties in Illinois were also the top 14 counties for soybean yields nationwide. Fifteen counties in the central portion of the state averaged more than 72 bushels per acre of soybeans and 14 counties averaged more than 230 bushels per acre of corn.

Sangamon County produced the highest soybean yield in Illinois for the second year in a row with an average of 82.3 and Douglas County recorded the state’s highest corn yield average of 246.

Douglas County                  80

Piatt County                        79.2

Moultrie County                 77.7

Warren County                    241.7
