Senior citizen injured trying to extinguish house fire in Shreveport

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 600 block of Bernard Boulevard in the Eden Gardens neighborhood Friday at 7:46 a.m.

Firefighters said the owner exited the home upon their arrival and had sustained minor injuries after attempting to extinguish the fire. Smoke and flames were seen coming from the roof of a one-story brick-veneer home. Firefighters treated the homeowner’s injuries and extinguished the fire simultaneously.

It took the efforts of 7 units—30 firefighters—10 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The homeowner was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
