Preparing for a busy spring
An Indiana-based Asgrow/DEKALB agronomist says farmers will need to catch up on fieldwork this spring.
Dave Colbert says many farmers were unable to finish fieldwork this fall because of cold and wet conditions.
“When mother nature finally says it’s okay to get in the field, we are going to have a lot of catch up to do with tillage and even some of us were out harvesting crops and rutting up the field,” he says.
He tells Brownfield it’s too early to worry about whether it will be an early or late spring.
“I don’t know about whether we’ll have an early spring or a late spring, but we’re going to have to fix some things or get prepared before we actually are able to plant,” he says.”
Colbert says farmers can prepare for the upcoming growing season by making sure equipment is ready to go.
