Down farm economy weighs heavy on farmers

The down farm economy remains a heavy weight on farmers.

Southeast Minnesota corn and soybean grower Jeff Tank says it’ll be a challenge penciling out a profit in 2019.

“And everyone is kind of seeing that, (which) is why we’re trying to manage things a little bit different and keep our input costs as low as we can so we’re at a little more of an advantage.”

He tells Brownfield there’s a lot of uncertainty in farm country.

“And hopefully it works out that maybe we can get some trade deals done and things that are out of our control but definitely affect our bottom-line.”

Tank manages a farm near Dodge Center and is the current chairman of the Dodge County Corn and Soybean Growers.
