A threat received by school officials that closed down Chambersburg Area Senior High School and the Chambersburg Magnet School was found not to be credible, according to a statement from district officials.

The release said the Chambersburg Area School District received an anonymous tip around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday through the Safe2Say program, which reported a threat of violence toward the senior high school. Chambersburg Police, Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were immediately notified of the threat and began an investigation.

The Safe2Say program is a youth violence prevention effort run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and provides an online portal the public can access to confidentially report school safety concerns, according to its website.

After an initial investigation deemed the threat potentially credible, officials decided to close the senior high school, as well as the magnet school as an extra precaution. At no time were any students or staff in immediate harm, the release added.

The high school staff were able to go into the building Thursday morning after reporting to the administration offices to allow time for district police to sweep the facility.

District officials said at this time no credible threats have been found by authorities. A spokesperson with the district said officials could not comment on what exactly the threat was, due to the ongoing investigation by police.

All Thursday evening activities will still be held, and all schools will be open on Friday. Any more changes to these schedules will be communicated to parents and guardians through the district's all-call system, along with its website and social media channels.

"The Chambersburg Area School District encourages parents, guardians, students, staff and community members to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities immediately to local authorities," the release continued. "All threats against students and staff are taken seriously and will be acted upon. Our top priority remains the safety and security of our students and staff."
