Ohio Farm Bureau members discuss priorities in D.C.

Ohio Farm Bureau President Frank Burkett says the organization’s 73rd annual trip to D.C. highlighted the importance of meeting with lawmakers.

“It represents the grassroots of our organization and the grassroots is the strength of our organization,” he says. “As we look at Ohio and other state farm bureau organizations that are here this week and weeks throughout the year, they’re here building relationships to really produce results on behalf of the membership.”

He tells Brownfield that Ohio Farm Bureau members were able to discuss issues that impact their farms and communities.

“Trade, tariffs, infrastructure, water quality, and now it’s time to implement a farm bill,” he says.

Burkett says the farm economy is also a concern.

“We’re in a trend of continued declines in farm income across the agriculture industry so it’s never been a more important time for farmers and ranchers to step up and advocate for their industry,” he says.

Burkett spoke to Brownfield during the Ohio Farm Bureau County Presidents’ Trip in D.C. last week.
