Bayer responds to latest Roundup verdict

Bayer says it is disappointed with a San Francisco jury’s decision that found exposure to Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide caused a California’s man’s cancer.

Bayer, in a statement, says it continues to believe in the science that confirms glyphosate-based herbicides do not cause cancer. Bayer says it is confident that the evidence in phase two of the trial—the liability phase—will show that Monsanto’s conduct has been appropriate and that the company should not be liable for Edwin Hardeman’s cancer.

The Hardeman case is the second verdict against Roundup. The first trial ended with the jury awarding more than 289 million dollars, but the court has reduced that amount. Six more trials are scheduled in the next year. More than 11-thousand Roundup users have filed suits against the manufacturer.
