ST. JOHNS - A St. Johns man faces more than a dozen felony and misdemeanor charges in connection with a shooting incident involving police on Sunday night.

Brent Emerson Martinez

Brent Emerson Martinez, 37, is accused of firing a weapon at officers who were called to a residence in the 500 block of North Clinton Avenue.

Martinez was arraigned Monday on charges of making a false terrorism report or threat, assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting and obstructing police, discharging a firearm in or at a building, malicious use of a telecommunications device and felony firearm possession, St. Johns police Chief David Kirk said in a news release.

Martinez is being held in the Clinton County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 cash bond. It was not clear if he is represented by an attorney.

Officers from multiple agencies responded to the incident about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Police said a man was threatening to go to his former girlfriend's place of employment and shoot patrons, then fired multiple rounds toward officers who were staging outside the house, police said.

The subject later spoke with officers by telephone and eventually surrendered.

No one was injured.

The most serious charge against Martinez is the false terrorism threat, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison upon conviction.
