How much will farmers flip to corn?

The results from more than 80,000 farmer surveys will be released soon and give insight on their planting intentions.

“Based on everything you know today, what do you expect to plant this year?”

Lance Honig with USDA’s statistics service says some producers are waiting as long as possible to make planting decisions with no trade resolution with China in sight.

“The results of this report could be one of the factors that impacts the decisions they make as they learn what other producers are thinking as well”

During the USDA Ag Outlook Forum in February, the agency estimated 2019/20 U.S. corn planted acreage at 92 million acres, up 2.9 million acres from 2018 and soybeans at 85 million acres, down 4.2 million.

The USDA’s prospective plantings report will be released March 29 at noon eastern.
