Oxnard receives $67,000 grant for senior volunteer program

Oxnard’s recreation division has received more than $67,000 in grant funding to continue and grow the Senior Corps Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

U.S. Rep. Julia Brownley, D-Westlake Village, made the announcement on Monday about the Corporation for National and Community Service grant.

“The amazing individuals who volunteer with Senior Corps do everything from providing after-school tutoring, to helping at local hospitals, to aiding the homeless,” Brownley said in a statement. “I am so pleased to see the city of Oxnard recreation division receive support for this important and life-changing program.”

Grant funding will be used to strengthen and expand the program, which supports nearly 400 volunteers, a news release stated.
