Legislature approves bill to assist MN farmers impacted by severe weather

A bill to assist Minnesota farmers impacted by recent severe winter weather is headed to the desk of Governor Walz.

Late last week, the Minnesota Legislature approved legislation that would expand eligibility for the Rural Finance Authority Disaster Loan Recovery Program.

House Ag Committee chair Jeanne Poppe says this is in response to the dozens of farm buildings across the state damaged by heavy snow and ice since late February.

“And the other thing that was done is to retroactively enact this back to January 1, 2019, so every farmer that had a collapse of their roofs has access to this Rural Finance Authority Disaster Relief fund.”

The program provides zero interest loans up to $200,000 dollars.
