Flooding a problem in many parts of the Midwest

The combination of melting snow and recent rains continues to wreak havoc on many Midwestern farms.

Lawrence Sukalski says about a dozen roads in south-central Minnesota have been closed off because of flood waters.

“We still have a lot of culverts plugged up, so water is going over the roads. We’re able to pass through a bunch of them, but if the tiles don’t open up (and)the rest of the culverts don’t open soon, we’ll probably have to close a few more roads down.”

The Martin County farmer tells Brownfield the flooding in Minnesota is minor compared to what’s happening in Nebraska and western Iowa.

“It’s going to be an ongoing problem for a while, but the positive part of it is these last few days more tiles should’ve opened up. So some of this ponding should start going down through the drain tile.”

Sukalski says he’s praying for those impacted by the devastating flooding out west.
