Nebraska Farm Bureau has established a disaster relief fund to aid the state’s farmers, ranchers and rural communities impacted by recent storms and flooding.

“One-hundred percent of the money that’s donated to the fund will be used to help people within those categories of farmers, ranchers or rural communities,” says Nebraska Farm Bureau president Steve Nelson. “There will be no administrative fees or anything like that taken out of it. One-hundred percent of what is donated will be used to help people.”

Nelson says recovery could be a slow process.

“This is not going to be a short-term thing, because of the road infrastructure that’s been damaged and the bridge infrastructure that’s been damaged. Not to mention the losses that are on the farms, which will be significant,” he says. “We have some long-term issues to deal with that will continue to cause problems for some time.”

Farm Bureau has also created an online information exchange portal to connect those in need with those who can help.
