Indiana celebrates National Ag Day

Today is National Ag Day in Indiana.

Indiana’s Family of Farmers, made up of many agricultural organizations in the state, sponsored a celebration today at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.

Indiana Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch says it’s important to recognize the importance of the industry today and every day.

“It’s so important that we support our agriculture community because they provide our food, they provide the clothes we wear, and they also provide training and leadership for our young leaders of tomorrow through FFA and 4H,” she says.

Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Bruce Kettler says agriculture has a huge impact on the state’s economy.

“Nearly 110,000 jobs are directly attributable to agriculture and it’s a $31 billion industry so it’s very important to our state,” he says.

The 2019 Ag Day student essay contest winners were also announced at the event.
