LANSING — General Motor's Lansing Grand River Assembly plant has a new leader.

The Detroit automaker named Darci Marcum plant director earlier this year. Marcum has worked for General Motors for 24 years with her most recent assignment as assistant plant director of operations at GM's Arlington Assembly Plant in Arlington, Texas.

Lansing Grand River Assembly is home to the Chevrolet Camaro, the Cadillac CTS and the Cadillac ATS. The plant will start making the recently-announced Cadillac CT5 this year.

“It's pretty exciting to have one of the showpiece show cars in the Camaro as well as brand new Cadillac," Marcum said. “The amount of investment into this facility to produce sedans is pretty amazing.”

Last summer, GM announced plans to invest $175 million at the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant over a three-year period. Constructed in 1999, the plant is GM’s second-newest U.S. assembly plant. It has about 1,800 employees.

Marcum went to undergrad at Purdue Unitversity and earned an MBA from the University of Dayton. This is her first time as a plant director, she said.

But it isn't her first time working in Lansing. She previously had short stints at both Lansing Grand River and Lansing Delta Township. She said she's been struck by the area's strong connection to GM.

”People are really interested in how the plants are doing, and they want to continue to succeed and keep it going in the area," she said.

In her time at GM, Marcum has worked in a variety of positions in plants across the country including plants in Spring Hill, Tennessee and Dayton, Ohio. Marcum said those diverse job opportunities are part of what drew her to work at GM.

She likes that her work is visible and impacts regular people.

"I can drive down the road and see the vehicles we make every day," she said.
