Marshall feeling confident about E15 rule

The CEO of the Missouri Corn Growers Association says they’re pleased the EPA has released its proposed rule on year-round E15, but there are still some challenges ahead, “We realize the government was shut down for a while, so it took a bit longer for the EPA to kick this out than what we were hoping for. But, hopefully now we can go through the comment period, submit comments and get a rule in place by June 1st.”

Gary Marshall tells Brownfield there are Renewable Identification Number proposals in the rule that have to do with retailers, “If the EPA is unable to move forward with the entire rule maybe they have to bifurcate it and just deal with the E15 side and then deal with the RINs side that the retailers are concerned about.”

And, Marshall says to expect a lawsuit from oil companies, “We had our lawyers look at it. We feel pretty confident that the EPA has their authority to move on this and we’re just very pleased that the president made it priority, and, hopefully we get this in place and we win the lawsuit as well.”

EPA will hold a public hearing on the E15 proposal March 29th.
