Ethanol production, stocks down on week

U.S. ethanol production was down last week and supplies got tighter.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says production averaged 1.005 barrels a day, down 19,000 on the week, falling below the four-week average of 1.013 million barrels a day, according to the Renewable Fuels Association.

Margins continue to be a concern for the industry, but the recent EPA announcement of proposed rules for year-round E15 use and changes to the Renewable Identification Number credit system are expected to be positives.

Stocks were down 530,000 barrels at 23.731 million.

The USDA expects 5.55 billion bushels of corn to be used for ethanol production this marketing year, down from 5.575 billion in February. The next projection is out April 9th.
